Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)

Kazakhstan has diplomatic relations with 13 states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM):

  • 7. The Republic of Suriname (11.04.2013)
  • 8. The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (28.04.2013)
  • 9. The Commonwealth of Dominica (08.05.2013)
  • 10. The Republic of Haiti (20.09.2013),
  • 11. Belize (11.07.2013),
  • 12. The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (16.01.2014),
  • 13.Commonwealth of the Bahamas (12.08.2014),
  • 14. Barbados - Diplomatic relations have not been established.

Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with the CARICOM and its member states, both bilaterally and within the framework of regional and international organizations.

The period of 2012-2017 became an important stage in the development of cooperation with the CARICOM states. During these years Kazakhstan had established diplomatic relations with all countries of the Community: Jamaica (27.07. 1995), Antigua and Barbuda (16.11.2007), Saint Lucia (12.05.2012), Grenada (15.11.2012), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (21.11.2012), Cooperative Republic of Guyana (11.01.2013), Republic of Suriname (11.04.2013), Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (28.04.2013), Commonwealth of Dominica (08.05.2013), Republic of Haiti (20.09.2013), Belize (11.07.2013), Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (16.01.2014), Commonwealth of the Bahamas (12.08.2014), Barbados (6.03.2018 г.).

Plenipotentiary Representative of Kazakhstan to the CARICOM is Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Mexico Andrian Yelemessov (since 2019).

The foundation of cooperation with the countries of the CARICOM was established by the contacts at high level. In September 2014, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov took part in the meeting of the CARICOM Council for Foreign and Community Relations in New York as an invited guest. In April 2015, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev participated in the meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Relations of the CARICOM in Guyana. CARICOM member states participated in the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017. 

Bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and CARICOM member states in 2018 reached 170.8 thousand US dollars, including 33.6 thousand in export and 137.2 thousand in import.
