On 13 March, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a working visit.
A crucial purpose of the visit was the participation of President Nazarbayev in the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games, which are being held in the Middle East for the first time.
According to the Press Office of the President of Kazakhstan, on the first day of the visit, President Nazarbayev met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and visited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
President Nazarbayev noted that a team representing Kazakhstan will be participating in the Special Olympics World Games. He also mentioned that the UAE regularly participates in the international events held by Kazakhstan, stressing that he was visiting Abu Dhabi to provide friendly support and take part in the opening ceremony of the Games.
In turn, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan thanked the President of Kazakhstan for accepting the invitation to visit the UAE, and emphasised the role of Kazakhstan in establishing interfaith harmony and dialogue across the world.
In 2019, the UAE celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the country.
“You knew Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for more than 25 years. He greatly respected you and admired you as a world leader. Your example inspired us to declare the year 2019 as the Year of Tolerance, and the UAE is positioned as a multinational, intercultural and interfaith centre under its framework. In this connection, a historic visit to the United Arab Emirates of Pope Francis took place in February 2019," the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi said.
On the same day, President Nazarbayev visited the Sheikh Zayed mosque in Abu Dhabi and honoured the memory of the country's founder and first president, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
On 14 March, President Nazarbayev was a guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. The honorary guests of this ceremony also included the King of Bahrain, the Emir of Kuwait, the Chancellor of Austria, and the Prime Minister of Malta.
