​​CIS observers present in all regions of Kazakhstan to monitor presidential election

NUR-SULTAN, June 7, 2019 - Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov recently met with Head of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Observation Mission to the presidential election of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev.

During the meeting, preparations for the presidential election were discussed. It was noted that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to open, transparent and fair elections in accordance with international standards. The country has implemented all the necessary conditions for the effective work of international observers, in accordance with the electoral legislation of Kazakhstan.

In order to monitor the electoral process, the Government and the Central Election Commission invited international observers from a number of states and relevant international organizations. The largest number of international observers are coming as part of the CIS Mission - 432 observers representing eight states of the Commonwealth.

The Foreign Minister expressed confidence that the election would be successful and expressed hope for an objective assessment by the CIS Mission.

Mr. Lebedev noted the high-quality preparation for the election and said that representatives of the Commonwealth would be present in all regions of Kazakhstan as observers. “Our main principle is respect for the national legislation of the state and non-interference in internal affairs,” said the CIS Executive Secretary.

The sides also discussed a wide range of issues on the international and regional agenda, and further development of cooperation within the Commonwealth.

At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Minister thanked the CIS observers for their participation in observation of the election, and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
