On May 27-28, 2019, the Kazakh delegation led by the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, took part in the 75th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held in Bangkok.
During the ministerial segment, the Head of the Kazakh delegation made a country report on Kazakhstan's progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national, regional and global levels. In particular, he pointed out extraordinary results in providing empowerment to people and ensuring social justice, achieved at the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev. In addition, Mr. Tleuberdi informed the audience about the country's success in developing transit and transport potential, including within the linking of the State Infrastructure Development Program “Nurly Zhol” and China's “One Belt, One Road” initiative. In the regional context, he highlighted the activities of the Astana International Financial Center, the International Centre for Green Technologies and Investment Projects, the Regional Hub of Civil Service, the Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia and the establishment of the UN Interregional center for SDGs in Almaty.
Within the session, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Thailand, jointly with China's Permanent mission and ESCAP Secretariat, organized a side event on interaction of the initiative “One Belt, One Road” and the UN 2030 Agenda for SDGs. During the panel discussion, Ambassador Raushan Esbulatova spoke about Kazakhstan's experience in developing infrastructural connectivity and commended Kazakhstan's role in implementing the idea of reviving the Great Silk Road.
As part of the session, First Deputy Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi held bilateral meetings with the UN Assistant Secretary General and ESCAP Executive Secretary, Armida Alisjahbana, and Assistant Foreign Minister of China, Zhang Jun.
