On 6-8 September, 2019, JSC «National company "Kazakh Tourism» and the Embassy of Kazakhstan to Malaysia with the support of the Ministry of culture and sports successfully presented Kazakhstan's exposition at the annual exhibition «MATTA Fair 2019». «Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents» (MATTA) holds the exhibition for 28 years, which is one of the largest fairs in the region in the fields of tourism and travel.

The winter tourism was chosen as theme of the Kazakh stand in conjunction with the concept of «Ethnic food», which previously attracted great interest at the exhibitions «ITB Berlin», «MITTE Moscow» etc. Kazakh delicacies, sweets and snacks, cocktails based on ayran, apricots and apple puree on the background of the winter peaks of Alatau did not remain unnoticed by the local public. Visitors are not only willing to try the unusual for their diet horse meat and ayran, but also enjoyed being photographed in national dress, plunged into the virtual reality of the resort «Shymbulak». It was especially nice to see the fans of the first Ambassador of Tourism of Kazakhstan Dimash Kudaibergen at the stand.

Along with the cultural program, the Kazakh delegation held productive meetings with colleagues from different departments of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Art of Malaysia, as well as associations and representatives of the business community. Memorandums of understandings were signed with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), the Agency «MATEX» and the Malaysian Ski Association. The parties agreed on the exchange of experience and training, development cooperation in the field of investment attraction and management of special tourist territories (LADA), mutual promotion of the destination and development of the certification system (MATEX), as well as promotion of Kazakhstan ski tourism among the athletes and outdoor enthusiasts of Malaysia.

Halal industry is becoming popular in the world, and Malaysia ranks the first position of 130 countries in terms of development of Halal tourism (Kazakhstan is 24 in the list). By 2026, the number of Muslims traveling in the world will reach 230 million (in 2018 – 140 000). Islamic Tourist Centre will conduct specialized training and certification programs in «Muslim Friendliness» for hotels and restaurants in Kazakhstan.

An agreement was also reached with the analogue of «Kazakh Tourism» in Malaysia, company «Tourism Malaysia» on joint promotion and use of sites of Kuala Lumpur visitor centre for promotional events of Kazakhstan tourism products at no charge.

The organizers of the exhibition – «Association MATTA», highly appreciated the participation of Kazakhstan in this event and expressed its readiness to send a group of tour operators to Kazakhstan to study the opportunities of winter tourism in the near future.

The head of «Tourism Malaysia» Datuk Yusof said: «Kazakhstan has all opportunities to attract tourists from our country. However, we hope for increase the flow from your country. For mutually beneficial exchange of tourists it is necessary to increase the number of flights between countries and provide the appropriate price policy. For example, the Malaysian national carrier subsidizes foreign tour operators. I am sure that such measures will help to increase the flow of tourists in Kazakhstan».

«The theme of the stand was chosen very correctly. It’s unusual for tourists are to see snowy peaks and they surely stop to take photos and find out more about your country. You should promote yourself more actively in Malaysia and other countries of the organization of Islamic cooperation. I have been twice to Kazakhstan and I was impressed by your capital and mountain peaks of Almaty, Medeo ice rink and Shymbulak» - commented Mr. Mohd Akil bin Yusof, Vice President of MATTA.

Kazakhstan's participation in the exhibition is the next step to promote the tourist potential of the country after the signing of the Memorandum of understandings between «Kazakh Tourism» and «MATTA» during the inaugural meeting of Kazakhstan-Malaysian Business Council in Almaty last October. Earlier within the framework of the Memorandum with «MATTA» Embassy of Kazakhstan in Kuala Lumpur provided assistance to delegations of Turkestan and Almaty regions in promotion of the region tourism.
