Kazakhstan and the US sign intergovernmental Agreement on Consular Privileges and Immunities

NUR-SULTAN, May 3, 2019 – In order to strengthen the enhanced strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the U.S., Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, and U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan, William Moser, signed an intergovernmental Agreement on Consular Privileges and Immunities. The instrument raises the level of diplomatic immunities and privileges for consular officials of Kazakhstan and the U.S. and their families. Enhanced mutual immunities and privileges for consular offices, consular officials and members of their families of the two states, provided for in the Agreement, will have a positive effect on their operational environment. The instrument will increase the effectiveness of the representation and protection of the interests of citizens of the two countries during their stay in both states.
