ASTANA, October 16, 2018 - Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abdrakhmanov held an in-house meeting on the implementation of the recent State of the Nation Address made by President Nursultan Nazarbayev entitled “Growing Welfare of Kazakh Citizens: Increase in Income and Quality of Life."
The Head of State used the address to stress that “in the context of difficult modern conditions, the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan requires adaptation and promotion of national interests based on the principles of pragmatism."
According to the Minister, the nation's foreign policy will focus on the principle of pragmatism and apply a differentiated and multi-level approach to interaction with foreign countries and international organizations.
“The high dynamics and instability of modern international processes require an improvement of foreign policy tools. This refers to the decline of global security and international legal systems, an increase in hybrid and terrorist threat levels, sanctions opposition and the enhancement of protectionist measures by individual states, and others," the statement noted.
The Minister pointed out the need to continue multi-level activities with partners on global platforms (UN, WTO, OPEC, etc.) and within regional associations (EAEU, SCO, CCTSS, OIC, ASEAN, etc.), as well as the use of potential bilateral intergovernmental commissions with various countries.
The systematic implementation of international initiatives of the Head of State remains as the key vector of the Foreign Ministry's work. To this end, a package of all international initiatives of the President will be prepared, and Kazakh diplomats should be guided by them in their activities.
The Foreign Ministry will strengthen its coordinating activities for the implementation of international agreements, and will also facilitate the search for pragmatic solutions to various challenges in relations with foreign business partners.
