Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed issues of enhancing cooperation with IMF

Nur-Sultan, November 6, 2019 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi met with the Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Mission for Central Asia Mark Horton.

The parties discussed relevant aspects of cooperation and prospects for further collaboration between Kazakhstan and the IMF.

In particular, they considered the opening of the IMF Regional Technical Assistance Center for Central Asia, the South Caucasus and Mongolia in Almaty, as well as the process of ratification by the Kazakh side of the UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies as of November 21, 1947.

One of the advantages of the deployment of the IMF office in Almaty is the presence of the UN Regional Hub and the launch of the “open sky” regime at the Almaty airport. The Regional Technical Assistance Center would provide significant support for the advancement of institutional capacity in all countries of Central Asia, the South Caucasus and Mongolia, in such areas as fiscal policy, banking, financial supervision and macroeconomic statistics.
