NUR-SULTAN, October 29, 2019 - The 19th meeting of the Interagency Commission on International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Treaties (IAC) was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yerzhan Ashikbayev in order to review and improve the implementation of Kazakhstan's international legal obligations in the field of humanitarian law and human rights.
The meeting considered the results of implementing decisions made at the previous 18th meeting of the Commission, as well as preparations for the defense of the Third National Report of Kazakhstan as a part of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights and regular national reports on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the Convention against Torture.
Along with this, the participants examined in detail the assessments and prospects for implementing the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council Special Procedures (special rapporteurs, independent experts, working groups) and the issues of Kazakhstan joining the UN international human rights treaties.
The IAC members, noting the importance of cooperation with the UN in human dimension, agreed to coordinate in joint efforts to fulfill the Kazakhstani side's international obligations in the field of human rights and freedoms.
